Stan Kenton Alumni Band Touring Educational Fund
Friends of Big Band Jazz (FBBJ) is a California 501(c)3 corporation whose mission is to perpetuate big band jazz music as an American art form. We accomplish this by supporting an annual series of public concerts of a 19-piece jazz band (the Mike Vax Jazz Orchestra), and from the proceeds of these performances and the sales of the band's CDs, support young musician jazz education.
Proceeds from our Friends of Big Band Jazz Membership, Sponsor a Musician Program and from ticket sales plus the funding from our Bronze, Silver and Gold Member contributors, have enabled our organization to do great things in the world of jazz and jazz education, such as:
- Giving scholarships to deserving students for various Jazz Summer Camps
- Being a sponsor of the tours of the Stan Kenton Alumni Band Being a sponsor of the Prescott, Arizona Jazz Summit and Student Workshops
- Sponsoring free concerts for music students
- Sponsoring performances and workshops by our musicians in schools

The Stan Kenton Alumni Band directed by Mike Vax will be touring extensively. We will be climbing aboard the band bus for tours in April,2012 in California and the East Coast in the fall of 2012, plus doing other dates around the country as they come in. We will be performing at festivals, universities, colleges, high schools, jazz societies, concerts, dances, and any other places or events that would enjoy having our band appear. Your name will go in the program as a tour donor. |  |

So, we are asking for your support to make our 2013 tour the most successful ever. Our tour dates are April 8th to 23rd and we do already have our anchor dates in place and we are working hard to fill in the rest of the dates. With your help, we can make the band even more available financially for these schools. | |

One of the most important things that we do with the Prescott Jazz Summit is our Educational Outreach Program. Our goal is to teach young people about "America?s Original Art Form" ? Jazz Music. Over the years we have given workshops, clinics, private lessons and guidance for school jazz bands. For the past few years we have also gone into schools to do assembly programs for the whole student body. Friends of Big Band Jazz has set up a scholarship in their name "Dave and Emily Umemoto Scholarship Fund." It will fund an ongoing scholarship that will be given, each year, to a graduating high school senior who is pursuing jazz studies in college. | |
