    The CHRIS WALDEN Big Band
    Origin Records (Origin 82463)

Chris Walden is one of the greatest young composers/arrangers in the world today!

Chris Walden started writing big band arrangements at the age of 16 for local high school bands in Germany. After graduating at 19 he joined the German National Youth Jazz Orchestra as a trumpet player. At the age of 21 he started writing arrangements for German radio big bands and radio symphony orchestras, while he was studying composition and arranging at the University of Cologne at the same time. As assistant to his mentor Peter Herbolzheimer Chris arranged music for the OSCAR® nominated film "Schtonk."

He emigrated to Los Angeles at the age of 29. Since 1999 Chris is leading his own big band recruited from top studio musicians based in Los Angeles. Chris is a board member of ASMAC (American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers.) In 2006 Chris received two Grammy® nominations.

I think you'll agree that this is a great CD. Listen to the sound bytes.

    Reviews:

"This album by Chris Walden is a great big band album. Everything including the sound is in place. It does not feel too big bandish at all. With the addition of Sutton on vocals and Walden not just conducting but directing everyone, this should be an album on your shelf. It has the right atmosphere and the right songs, Walden has a winner here. Big band it is labeled and big band it is."

             -- Brenton Plourde, jazzreview.com

"These are big band sounds at the highest level. An essential disc for fans of the genre."

-- Dan McClenaghan, All About Jazz

"Fine playing, and even finer compositions lead this to be one of the better (and perhaps even one of the best) jazz releases of the year."

-- Adam Greenberg, All Music Guide
